On 9 December 2025, from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM, the DCOM students visited the ST Telemedia Global Data Centre for an immersive practical exposure session. The visit was facilitated by Ms. Chandrakala and the STT Data Centre team, who provided a detailed walkthrough of the iBMS (Integrated Building Management System) and the core components of data centre operations. Students were introduced to critical systems such as UPS units, PDUs, racks, raised flooring, chillers, and the entire electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
A virtual demonstration of the BMS showcased real-time monitoring of equipment, alarms, temperature control, and power management. During the practical tour, students observed key operational zones including the UPS room, generator area, LT and HT transformer rooms, substation, chiller plant, security systems, fire alarm and safety mechanisms, electrical power distribution panels, and the network infrastructure setup. Each section was explained with precision, bridging theory with real-world application.
Toward the end of the visit, Shankar Sir from STT joined the interaction, offering deeper insights into data centre functioning and highlighting career pathways within the DCOM domain. The visit proved to be highly informative, providing students with hands-on understanding and enhancing their academic foundation in data centre operations.
