On 11th June 2025, the Food and Beverage students of Don Bosco Tech Society embarked on a significant and inspiring learning journey to The Leela Palace, Bhartiya City, Bengaluru—one of India’s finest examples of luxury and excellence in hospitality. The field visit was thoughtfully organized as part of the students’ practical exposure to the dynamic world of hotel operations and was led by Domain Trainer Ms. Puja Karjee and English Communicative Trainer Mr. Silvanus Nongdhar. A total of 21 students participated, comprising 12 boys and 9 girls, each eager to experience the real-world workings of a five-star hotel.

The journey began early in the morning at 7:00 AM from the DBSM Campus. A two-leg commute—first to Majestic and then onward to the hotel—offered not just travel but growing anticipation. Upon arrival, the team was ushered through the Convention Hall, where a warm welcome awaited them. Ms. Jyotsna Kolichala, Learning and Development Manager at The Leela Palace, greeted the group with gracious hospitality. Refreshments and tea were served—setting the tone for the day ahead.

What followed was a meticulously curated tour across the hotel’s core departments. The group began with a walkthrough of the majestic Banquet Hall and Ballrooms, where luxury met meticulous planning. The tour then led students through an array of signature spaces—Lotus Oriental, the hotel’s elegant main restaurant; the sophisticated Library Bar; and Falak, known for its royal charm and ambiance. From there, the students explored the fitness and spa areas, the serene Quattro Lobby, and ventured into the often unseen but crucial areas of hotel operations—including the back-office section, laundry services, and the bustling kitchens where precision meets creativity.

Each department offered a distinct perspective. The students observed not only the aesthetics and functionality of these spaces but also the coordination and discipline that underpin five-star service. The professionalism and attention to detail displayed by the staff left a lasting impression.

The tour concluded in the Conference Hall, where an interactive learning session was held. Mr. Vinneeth Senan, Associate Director of Human Resources, shared an engaging and motivational introduction that offered students a glimpse into the hospitality industry’s human side—its values, challenges, and opportunities. Ms. Diksha Ameria, Learning and Development Manager, then presented an insightful PowerPoint session. She covered The Leela Palace’s storied legacy, its footprint across India, and the intricacies of the various departments that contribute to its esteemed reputation.

The day ended on a high note with a thoughtfully prepared lunch, generously hosted by the hotel. It was more than a meal—it was a demonstration of culinary excellence and service precision.

By the time the group returned to campus, students were not only energized but also transformed by the experience. The visit offered them a window into the expectations, standards, and sophistication of luxury hospitality. It helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and the real-world environment, leaving them better prepared—and more inspired—for careers in the hospitality industry.

Such immersive field visits are invaluable. They don’t just educate—they ignite ambition and open doors to future possibilities.
