The D.Com trainees of Don Bosco Skill Mission participated in an industrial visit to the Schneider Electric Data Center located in Whitefield, Bengaluru, as part of their practical learning curriculum. The visit was coordinated and guided by Mr. Devendra Honnappa, Ms. Bhavana S, the Secure Power Team, Schneider Electric Bangalore, and Mr. Prashanth Shetty, DGM – CSR, Schneider Electric India, who collectively provided in-depth insights into data center operations and infrastructure.
During the forenoon session, the faculty explained the testing, monitoring and maintenance procedures carried out on various data center components. The trainees were briefed on operational workflows, safety protocols and the critical role each system plays in ensuring uninterrupted data center performance.
In the afternoon session, trainees were taken inside the live Schneider Electric Data Center for real-time exposure. The team demonstrated major equipment and systems, offering practical understanding of how data centers function at scale. Students observed and learnt about:
• Micro Data Centers
• Cooling Systems
• Sensors and Monitoring Systems
• UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Systems
• PDU (Power Distribution Unit) Systems
• Other critical data center infrastructure
This hands-on exposure allowed trainees to see theoretical concepts applied in real operational environments. They had the opportunity to interact with experienced professionals, clarify doubts and understand industry expectations more clearly.
The visit proved to be highly informative and impactful, significantly enriching the trainees’ knowledge of modern data center management and operations. It strengthened their technical understanding and prepared them better for future roles in the data center and IT infrastructure sector.
