A Fire Safety Awareness Program organized by the Hulimavu Police Station on 15 November 2024 turned an ordinary day at Don Bosco Tech Society into an eye-opening learning experience for students and staff alike. Led by Mr. Mahantha Gowda, SI (Police) and Fire Extinguisher Officer, the event blended education, real-world insights, and hands-on demonstration into a compelling session that left a lasting impact on all participants.

The program opened with an engaging introduction to the realities of fire hazards and the importance of timely, informed response. Mr. Gowda explained how everyday situations—from household mishaps to electrical malfunctions and outdoor fires—can escalate rapidly if not handled with awareness and composure. His session walked the audience through the science behind different types of fires, the logic of preventive habits, and the reasons calm, quick decision-making is essential during emergencies. With relatable examples and clear explanations, he helped students understand how easily a fire could begin, and more importantly, how easily many of them can be prevented.

The most anticipated part of the event followed: a live demonstration of fire-fighting techniques. Students gathered with excitement as Mr. Gowda showcased a range of methods used to extinguish different types of flames. Foam fire extinguishers, sand application, and water-based techniques were demonstrated in real time, each paired with explanations on when and why the method is appropriate. Watching controlled flames being managed with precision gave students a rare chance to see theoretical knowledge come alive. The practical segment made them more alert, more confident, and more aware of the responsibility each person carries in ensuring safety in shared spaces.

By the end of the session, students not only learned how to handle basic fire-fighting tools but also developed a clearer understanding of the broader concept of fire safety. They walked away with greater self-assurance, enriched knowledge of preventive measures, and a stronger sense of responsibility towards maintaining safety in homes, institutions, and the larger community.

This initiative by the Hulimavu Police Station, and the expertise shared by Mr. Mahantha Gowda, made the program both impactful and inspiring. Events like these serve as vital catalysts for building safer environments and nurturing young individuals who are informed, prepared, and empowered to act responsibly when faced with emergencies.
